Vigilantes & Charity

Charity is one of the central aspects of Freemasonry

Freemasonry encourages members to be kind and charitable, providing a support structure to help them make positive contributions to their communities through fundraising and volunteer work.

The MCF

Funded entirely through the generosity of Freemasons and their families, the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) is one of the largest grant-making charities in the country.

The Lincolnshire 2025 Festival

Since 2020, Lincolnshire Freemasons (including the Vigilantes) have been taking part in a 'Festival' of charitable efforts; challenging ourselves to raise a whopping £2.25m by 2025 to support the work of the Masonic Charitable Foundation.

Freemasons from across our Province have been baking, walking, climbing and more... all in aid of Charity.

One Lincolnshire Mason is currently on an epic 18 month adventure, walking the 7500 miles of the UK Coastline! You can follow Chris' heroic efforts on his blog Walk The Edge.

Taking care of our Community

For many years, Freemasons have been at the heart of their communities. Vigilantes is proud to continue this; regularly supporting local, Grimsby & Cleethorpes charities.

Sometimes smaller charities or groups get overlooked for funding in favour of big, national charities - even when they're the closest to the issues and can have the biggest impact.
As Vigilantes members are local people, we have the ability to direct our charitable efforts to these worthy causes.

With the support of the MCF, we've even been able to double-up our donations to offer even more support for these great causes!

A couple of worthy causes we've supported recently are:

  • FLAG, supporting recreational activities for children with disabilities and special needs https://flaggrimsby.co.uk/
  • Friendship at Home, aiming to combat loneliness and isolation for older people in North East Lincolnshire https://www.friendshipathome.org.uk/

Taking care of our Masonic Family

They say Charity begins at home, and one of the things we're really proud of is how we come together to look after our Brothers and their families in times of need.

For example, each Christmas, Vigilantes members purchase and hand-deliver gifts to the Widows of our members that are no longer with us. They're always gratefully received and the ladies often comment how they appreciate staying connected with the Vigilantes Lodge that their husbands had enjoyed so much.

In addition, one of our members takes on the office of Almoner; a role specially dedicated to taking care of our members and their families. Sometimes a good listener and a cup of tea is the answer to many problems!
