One of the highlights of any lodge social calendar is the ladies night it is when the Brethren of Vigilantes Lodge pay tribute to their wives, mothers, daughters, and partners.
Thirty-six gentlemen, not all members of Vigilantes Lodge and not all Freemasons, gathered at The Pelham Suite at Grimsby Masonic Hall to pay tribute to the fairer sex. The men dressed appropriately in black tie were completely overshadowed by the ladies who had certainly dressed to impress. Long dresses, short dresses certainly an array of beauty. From the very start It became apparent we were all in for an excellent evening.
The Director of Ceremonies for the evening, W Bro Lee Poole, called everyone to take their places for dinner at the beautifully dressed circular tables.
The Chaplain, W Bro Alan Todd was called on to say “Grace”. A 3-course meal followed which everyone enjoyed.
Each lady's place setting was adorned with an attractive “favour” that contained a scented candle. Our Masters lady Mellanie provided the menus which were works of art, much admired by all the guests.
The Chaplain returned thanks and our Worshipful Master, James Vincent Starkey proposed the toast to the King.
It was then the turn of our Director Of Ceremonies W. Bro Lee Poole to propose the toast to the Ladies, which he did eloquently and with great charm.
Our very own W Bro Paul Aitken and W.Bro Nigel Winn took to the floor and gave an excellent rendition of ‘The Ladies and Flower song’, with all the gentlemen joining in the chorus.
The toast was responded to by Mrs Mellanie Starkey, our Worshipful Master’s wife who thanked W.Bro Poole for his kind words and Paul and Nigel for the song and accompaniment. It was touching to see the pride on our Worshipful Master’s face as Mellanie gave her speech. Well done Mel! The WM's family were all sitting at the table, supporting dad!
The formal part of the evening now over, the festivities began, entertainment being provided by the very talented, much travelled vocalist Victoria Keal, daughter of Bro Martyn Keal and Irene Keal. Followed by a disco to take us to the end of the evening.
Congratulations to Pelham Suite on an excellent meal in beautiful surroundings, W.Bro Lee Poole for his Master of Ceremony duties and to our WM, Jim and his wife Mel for the Ladies gifts and table decorations.
Thanks, must also go to the Brethren who supported the evening, and, to those who were unable to attend - you don’t know what you missed!!!!
